April 29 2024

On April 30th, a significant mark of progress toward flood resiliency in the Cimarron subdivision is set to be celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones. This event symbolizes the completion of the $13.5 million drainage project designed to lower flood risks for over 250 structures in the area. The project has been a joint effort, funded by the 2018 Flood Bond, MUD 81, and Cornerstones MUD.

Attendees will have the chance to hear from a number of speakers, including Commissioner Lesley Briones of Harris County Precinct 4; Dr. Milton Rahman, Executive Director of the Harris County Engineering Department; Patrick Cathcart and Kate Hallaway, president and district engineer of MUD 81 respectively. Others include Morgan Stagg, president of Cornerstones MUD; Jim Knebel, president of Cimarron Community Improvement Association; and Sergio Meyberg, a resident of the area.

The event will take place between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. at 1154 Copper Creek Drive, Katy, TX 77450. Street parking is accessible along Red Rock Canyon Drive for attendees. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be relocated to the Cimarron Community Improvement Association Building at 818 Pickford, Katy, Texas 77450.

This project's completion not only demonstrates a commitment to making the Cimarron area more resilient to flooding but also signifies a united community working together to make positive changes for the betterment of all residents.
