Jersey Village and Cy Woods High School Alumni Selected in 2024 NFL Draft

May 01 2024

In an epic moment of sports achievement, four former Cy-Fair ISD students have found their place in the National Football League (NFL), either through the annual Draft or as undrafted free agents.

The 2024 NFL Draft saw two of CFISD's former football standouts, Patrick Paul of Jersey Village High School, and Christian Jones from Cypress Woods High School, being selected by the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals, respectively.

The NFL Draft is a colossal competition. Every year, out of thousands, only about 335 of the USA's finest college football players are invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, according to the NFL. From this elite pool, approximately 250 are actually drafted into the league, a remarkable accomplishment given the intensity of the process.

Patrick Paul, who was an All-American offensive lineman at the University of Houston, was chosen as the 55th overall pick in the second round. Paul has an illustrious track record, being a first-team All-Big 12 conference honoree with the best pass block grade among tackles (91.5) in the nation, allowing only one sack in 469 opportunities.

Christian Jones, a former standout at Cypress Woods High School and now offensive lineman at the University of Texas, was selected in the fifth round (162nd overall). Jones' accolades are equally impressive, having been mentioned for All-Big 12 in 2022 and 2023, a Joe Moore Award semifinalist, All-Big 12 team selection by USA Today, and All-Texas second team by Dave Campbell's Texas Football.

Following the draft, two more CFISD alumni signed with NFL teams as undrafted free agents, further demonstrating the depth of talent in CFISD's football program.

Shemar Bartholomew, a Cypress Ranch High School graduate, has been signed by the New York Jets. Bartholomew, a defensive back at Georgia Southern University, was the second-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection and third-team All-Conference by Phil Steele, after transferring from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 2023.

Meanwhile, Miles Battle, a Cypress Creek High School graduate, has been signed by the Kansas City Chiefs. The cornerback played in 46 games with four starts at Ole Miss before moving to the University of Utah. There, he played in all 13 games in the 2023 season, finishing with a notable 32 tackles.

Out of over 1 million high school football players that play the sport each year, these four former CFISD players have made significant strides by joining one of the most competitive sports leagues in the world.
