At Home Stores in Cypress to Remain Open as Company Restructures Nearly $2 Billion in Debt
The popular home décor chain At Home announced this week that it has entered a court-supervised financial restructuring process aimed at dramatically reducing its debt load while ensuring its stores—and its mission—remain intact.
The good news for local shoppers? Both At Home locations serving the Cypress area—the store at 12605 N Gessner Dr. in Houston and the one at 24340 Northwest Freeway in Cypress—will remain open for business as usual throughout the process.
“We are not closing our doors. In fact, we’re doubling down on what our customers love most: style, value, and inspiration,” said Brad Weston, CEO of At Home. “This is a step forward, not backward.
A Financial Reset, Not a Shutdown
At Home has voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, a legal process that allows the company to reorganize while staying operational. This strategic move comes with a prearranged agreement with more than 95% of its lenders to eliminate nearly $2 billion in debt and inject $200 million in new capital.

The plan also includes $600 million in financing to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly. Wages, vendor payments, and customer services will continue uninterrupted, according to the company’s court filings.
In essence, this isn’t about closing stores—it’s about clearing financial hurdles to remain competitive in today’s retail environment.
What Local Shoppers Can Expect
Shoppers in Cypress and Northwest Houston should see no immediate changes to their in-store or online experiences. Staff are staying on. Shelves will stay stocked. And At Home remains committed to offering stylish, affordable design solutions that fit Texas lifestyles.
The two local stores, a favorite stop for those decorating everything from new builds in Bridgeland to cozy apartments near Willowbrook Mall, are expected to continue operations with no service disruptions.
Why This Matters
At Home's decision to restructure is part of a larger trend in retail, where even large chains are grappling with inflation, shifting consumer habits, and global trade uncertainties. By reducing its debt, At Home aims to invest in better inventory and pricing, streamline operations, and enhance the shopping experience.
This is especially relevant to suburban shoppers in growing areas like Cypress, where home décor and seasonal items are a high priority for families and homeowners.

What’s Next?
Once the court approves the agreement, At Home expects to emerge from Chapter 11 with new ownership—primarily its current lenders—and a stronger financial footing. Company leaders emphasize that this transition will ultimately allow them to grow, not shrink.
In the meantime, customers can continue to shop confidently, knowing the brand they love is taking steps to secure its future.
