Houston-area residents are invited to the Disaster Preparedness Summit on May 17th, from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM at the Steve Radack Community Center. This free, in-person event offers hands-on education for preparing homes, families, pets, and landscapes for hurricanes and other natural disasters.

Hosted by Harris County 4-H, a youth development program under Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, the event supports community resilience through practical knowledge. Known for empowering youth and families through agriculture, science, and civic engagement, Harris County 4-H brings its community spirit to this preparedness-focused event.

Participants can expect:
  • Expert sessions on home disaster preparation, emergency food storage, pet safety planning, and insurance basics
  • Hands-on demonstrations including generator safety, outdoor cooking, and landscape readiness
  • A dedicated KidZone with supervised activities for children
  • Free lunch included with registration
