The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Presents: Matisse and the Wild Beasts
28515 Old Washington Road
Hockley ,TX 77447
This presentation will be about color, color, color! Henri Matisse was one of the artists that moved art forward to the 20th Century and the new ideas associated with modern art. His use of bright colors and unique designs influenced so many other artists. Picasso considered him a friend, but most importantly a rival who he must outshine even though their art was often quite different. Matisse was one of the leaders of a group of artists that came to be known as the Wild Beasts. Their artworks were created with bright colors, bold brush work, and their subject matter was simplified almost to abstraction. The beauty of these works is that any color could be applied to any object often creating paintings that were extravagantly flamboyant.
