Cy-Fair ISD to Host Community E-Waste Drive at the Berry Center Benefiting Cy-Fair Educational Foundation and Cy-Hope

August 19 2025

In an effort to promote sustainability while supporting students and families in need, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD will host its annual E-Waste Drive on Friday, Sept. 6 at the Berry Center, located at 8877 Barker Cypress Rd, Cypress, TX 77433. The event will run from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and all community members are encouraged to participate.

The drive-thru style event, organized by the CFISD Technology Department, invites residents to drop off unwanted electronics—from laptops and old desktop computers to printers, keyboards, routers, and phones. The items will be responsibly recycled, with 100% of proceeds going to benefit the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) and Cy-Hope, two local nonprofits committed to uplifting youth through scholarships and support services.

“When you recycle electronics, you’re keeping harmful waste out of landfills and technology can be reused either by reselling individual parts or reselling as a whole,” said AJ Reveile, a CFISD computer technician.

Why Your Old Tech Matters

This initiative does more than clean out garages and office drawers—it gives old technology new life and keeps toxic materials from harming the environment. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world. In the U.S. alone, an estimated 2.7 million tons of consumer electronics were discarded in 2018, with only 38.5% properly recycled. Many devices contain hazardous elements like lead, cadmium, and mercury, which can contaminate soil and groundwater when improperly disposed of.

CFISD’s approach turns a potentially hazardous problem into a powerful opportunity for giving back.

Notably, every donated device is processed with data safety in mind. Residents are still encouraged to wipe or remove any personal data from devices before drop-off. Volunteers will be on hand to help unload items, making the entire experience fast and efficient—no need to leave your vehicle.

Giving Back Through Recycling: Every Device Counts

The event also highlights the important missions of Cy-Fair Educational Foundation, which supports CFISD students through college scholarships, educational enrichment programs, and partnerships that promote academic excellence, and Cy-Hope, which supports students through food pantries, counseling, and a wide range of enrichment programs throughout the year.

“Please come out and support the drive so we can support scholarships through the CFEF and help families through Cy-Hope," said Reveile.

For those who may be hesitant to part with obsolete electronics, Reveile reminds residents that every item counts:

“Whether it’s a single mouse or an entire computer setup, that contribution can make a real difference for a student pursuing college or a family going through a hard time.”
