Fort Bend County Clerk’s Office Offers Saturday Hours for Birth Certificates This July

June 17 2025

In a move aimed at increasing accessibility for busy families and working individuals, Fort Bend County Clerk Laura Richard has announced special summer weekend hours for the County Clerk’s Office. On Saturday, July 19, 2025, the office located in the Travis Building at 301 Jackson Street in Richmond will open its doors to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for vital records services.

This initiative offers residents a rare opportunity to obtain certified birth certificates on a Saturday, bypassing the need to take time off from work or disrupt weekday responsibilities.

“We understand that many families and working individuals have busy schedules, especially during the summer months,” said Clerk Laura Richard. “By offering special Saturday hours, we hope to make it a little easier for people to get the vital records they need without having to take time off work or rearrange weekday commitments.”

Why This Saturday Access Matters

With summer in full swing and families juggling camps, vacations, and back-to-school preparation, the timing of this Saturday-only access is especially beneficial. Residents may need certified birth certificates for:

  • School or daycare enrollment
  • Travel documentation and passport renewals
  • Real ID and other official identification updates
  • Government benefits or legal proceedings

For many, these documents are time-sensitive, and the convenience of a weekend window can make all the difference—especially for those who can’t spare time away from weekday obligations or who face long wait times when school begins.

Additional Services for Veterans

In addition to issuing birth certificates, the County Clerk’s Office will also provide services for veterans, including:

  • Recording military discharge paperwork (DD-214)
  • Issuing Thank-A-Veteran program ID cards

These services help veterans secure official recognition and access to local benefits without needing to navigate the weekday schedule or wait in line.

Walk-In Friendly, No Appointment Necessary

No appointments are needed for this special event—walk-ins are welcome during the three-hour Saturday window. However, residents are encouraged to come prepared:

  • Review required ID documents
  • Understand eligibility for birth certificate requests
  • View service fees in advance

A Community-Centered Approach

The summer Saturday birth certificate access is part of a broader effort by Fort Bend County to make public services more responsive to the needs of modern residents. Whether it’s a working parent preparing for the school year, a traveler needing documentation for an international trip, or a veteran updating their records, this initiative ensures critical services are just a little more within reach.
