Fort Bend County Fair Queen Scholarship Contest Kicks Off with Enrichment and Tradition
The 2025 Fort Bend County Fair Queen Scholarship Contest is officially underway, launching with a spirited and educational start that blends personal growth with long-standing tradition.
Earlier this month, candidates gathered for Enrichment/Derby Day, an event designed to prepare them for the responsibilities of representing Fort Bend County as Fair Queen. The day’s sessions covered leadership development, social media presence, professional fashion and presentation, and career-building skills—reflecting the scholarship program’s commitment to preparing young women for success both on and off the fairgrounds.
The day concluded with a formal dinner attended by Fort Bend County Fair President Bobby Poncik and his wife, Jana, Immediate-Past President Alicia Casias, and members of the Queen Scholarship Committee. Each candidate demonstrated poise, confidence, and enthusiasm for the journey ahead.
Adding inspiration, 2024 Fair Queen Saige Sowa joined the event, offering encouragement and sharing her own experiences. Her visit reminded participants of the opportunities and lasting impact that come with wearing the crown.

The title of Fort Bend County Fair Queen is more than ceremonial. The crowned Queen serves as an ambassador for the Fair’s BBQ Cookoff and 10-day run, appearing at livestock shows, auctions, receptions, and other official events. Throughout the year, she also represents the Fair at community gatherings, holiday celebrations, luncheons, and other special events across Fort Bend County.
A Tradition Rooted in Community
The Fort Bend County Fair Queen tradition dates back decades, established to highlight leadership, public speaking, and civic engagement among local youth. Over the years, the scholarship component has grown, providing financial support to winners for their continuing education. Many former Fair Queens credit the program with building confidence, networking opportunities, and lifelong friendships.
The Fort Bend County Fair itself has been a cherished county tradition since 1933, bringing together residents for rodeos, concerts, livestock competitions, and family fun. The Fair’s mission has always been to support youth agricultural programs and foster a sense of community pride. Today, it remains one of the largest county fairs in Texas.
