Fort Bend Junior Service League Celebrates 25 Years of Volunteerism, Opens Registration for New Members Through August 24
For 25 years, the Fort Bend Junior Service League (FBJSL) has been woven into the fabric of Fort Bend County, championing charitable causes, empowering women, and lifting up local nonprofits through tireless volunteerism and heartfelt philanthropy. As the League celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, it’s also looking ahead—inviting a new generation of volunteers to join its mission before the registration deadline on August 24.
“Our incredible volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Your time, energy, and commitment will be vital to promoting positive change and supporting the vital services and activities we provide. We truly believe that your compassion and dedication to our cause will make a lasting impact on those who need it the most,” said NaTasha Vaughn, FBJSL’s Director of New Members.
Women in the Fort Bend area who want to make a difference are encouraged to apply at www.fbjsl.org or reach out to Vaughn directly at newmembers@fbjsl.com. New member applications are open until Saturday, August 24, 2025.
A Legacy of Leadership and Compassion
FBJSL was founded in 2000 by a passionate group of local women who recognized that, while Fort Bend County was growing rapidly, there was no volunteer service organization dedicated exclusively to meeting its evolving needs. What began as a grassroots effort to fill that gap has blossomed into a powerful force for good, comprising trained volunteers who offer thousands of service hours annually to dozens of community nonprofits.
Since its founding, FBJSL has donated over $5.2 million to local nonprofits through its Community Assistance Fund, annual fundraisers, and volunteer partnerships with core agencies across the region.

Its mission is simple yet powerful: to promote volunteerism, develop the potential of women, and improve the Fort Bend County community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. FBJSL also emphasizes camaraderie, diversity, and empowerment—providing a welcoming space for women to connect, grow, and give back together.
Events That Give Back
FBJSL is perhaps best known for its annual Sugar Plum Market, a beloved Fort Bend County tradition that kicks off the holiday season. Organized entirely by volunteers, the festive shopping event is a major fundraiser that has distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to nonprofits each year. Shoppers browse unique vendors while knowing their purchases directly support community programs—a true example of “shopping for a cause.”
Another cherished event is the Teen League Fun Run, a 3K/5K walk and run organized by FBJSL’s youth arm. Designed to engage the next generation in charitable action, the event raises funds while educating participants about the needs of Fort Bend through mission-focused booths and community outreach.
The Power of Volunteering—For Everyone
While FBJSL’s impact on the community is measurable in dollars donated and lives touched, research shows that volunteers benefit just as much from their service.
According to a 2023 study by the Mayo Clinic, regular volunteering can lead to improved mental and physical health, increased life satisfaction, reduced stress levels, and a deeper sense of purpose. In fact, over 75% of volunteers reported feeling healthier after committing their time to service, and more than 80% said volunteering strengthened their social connections and reduced feelings of isolation.
With that in mind, joining FBJSL isn’t just a way to help others—it’s also a meaningful opportunity for personal growth, leadership development, and friendship.

Recognized by the Community
Over the years, FBJSL’s work has been honored with numerous awards, including multiple “Volunteer Organization of the Year” accolades, “Outstanding Fundraising Event” honors for the Sugar Plum Market, and recognitions from partners like Child Advocates of Fort Bend, Hope for Three, and the Fort Bend County Women’s Center. In 2021, the League was even recognized for its resilience during the pandemic with AMA Houston’s Crystal Awards for its virtual event adaptation.
These accolades highlight not just the League’s consistency and compassion, but also the professional caliber of its volunteer force.
