Jersey Village’s Senate Avenue Brewing Wins Gold and Bronze at Fredericksburg Craft Beer Festival 2025
Local craft brewery Senate Avenue Brewing Company added another chapter to its community-rooted success story with a golden showing at the 2025 Fredericksburg Craft Beer Festival. The brewery clinched gold in the American Porter and Stout category for its Secretary of Stout and earned a bronze in the Specialty and Spiced Beer category for the cleverly-named Ready. Aim. Misfire.
Held on June 13–14 in the historic Marktplatz of downtown Fredericksburg, Texas, the fourth annual Fredericksburg Craft Beer Festival was a celebration of Texas brewing talent. Organized by the Fredericksburg Rotary Club, the event combined tastings, live music, local food, and a charitable mission: 80% of the festival’s proceeds support local nonprofit initiatives, while the remaining 20% benefits the Hill Country Community Needs Council.
Brewing Excellence from a Public Service Heart
Founded in 2020 by former Jersey Village Mayor Andrew Mitcham and his wife Michelle Mitcham, a current city council member, Senate Avenue Brewing Company is known for more than just beer. Born out of a neighborhood group dubbed “Dads, Driveways and Draughts,” the Mitchams launched the brewery to bring neighbors together—and the results have resonated well beyond the cul-de-sac.

Their Secretary of Stout, a 9.5% ABV stout infused with smooth fudge and coffee notes, captivated the judges and secured first place in its category. On the other end of the flavor spectrum, Ready. Aim. Misfire. (7.6% ABV), a Belgian Wit-style wheat beer featuring orange peel and coriander, took third place in its category. Interestingly, the latter began as a brewing mishap—an accidental swap of Pilsner malt with White Wheat—which yielded such a unique profile that the team decided to embrace the mistake and give the beer its playful name.
Competition with a Cause
The Fredericksburg Craft Beer Competition, hosted during the festival, drew entries from breweries across Texas. Judged by a panel of seasoned beer experts and volunteers, the awards recognize the best brews in a variety of styles. The awards ceremony took place at the renowned Altstadt Brewery, further highlighting the festival’s commitment to showcasing excellence in Texas brewing.
Set against the scenic backdrop of the Texas Hill Country, Altstadt Brewery is a German-style destination brewery known for its old-world architecture, authentic Bavarian brews, and expansive beer hall experience.
