Katy Triathlon Returns August 31 with Family Fun, Fierce Competition, and a Local Legacy
It’s almost time to swim, bike, and run your heart out. The annual Katy Triathlon returns Sunday, August 31, 2025, bringing back one of the area’s most anticipated fitness events—complete with family-friendly activities, a celebrated racing history, and a mission that gives back to the Katy community.
Hosted at the Katy Boardwalk, located at 24566 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX 77493, the event draws hundreds of participants from across the Greater Houston region and beyond. Organized by the Rotary Club of Katy, the Katy Triathlon has been a beloved local tradition for over 30 years. As a USA Triathlon-sanctioned race, it not only brings athletes together but also serves a greater purpose.
Race Options for All Ages and Levels
Whether you’re a first-timer looking for a new challenge or a seasoned competitor, the 2025 Katy Triathlon offers several race formats to fit your goals:
- Sprint Triathlon (400m swim, 12.2-mile bike, 3.1-mile run)
- Olympic Triathlon (1,500m swim, 24.8-mile bike, 6.2-mile run)
- Sprint Relay and Olympic Relay formats (perfect for friends or family teams)
- AquaBike events for those preferring just the swim and bike legs
- Kids Triathlon, a shorter-distance race designed to encourage young athletes ages 6–15 to try out the sport in a safe and fun environment
All races take place within the scenic Katy Boardwalk, with the swim in a calm, man-made lake and the bike and run routes laid out on secure, police-patrolled roads.

Why the Katy Triathlon Matters
Unlike many large-scale events, the Rotary Club of Katy takes no administrative or management fees—all third-party expenses are covered, and 100% of the net proceeds go directly toward need-based and character scholarships for graduating Katy ISD seniors.
To date, the Rotary Club of Katy has awarded over $771,500 in scholarships and contributed an additional $175,000 to a scholarship endowment with Katy ISD, which is helping fund the district’s Dual Credit Program.
The goal is simple but powerful: to host a high-quality family event that helps students in need and changes lives for the better.
Spectator Info and Community Involvement
For those not racing, the Katy Triathlon still offers plenty of ways to get involved. The Kids Triathlon is a must-see for families, with young racers cheered on by a crowd of proud parents and volunteers. Spectators are encouraged to bring signs, smiles, and their voices to cheer on participants from designated viewing areas along the course.
Local businesses and residents also play a key role, with many serving as race-day volunteers or event sponsors. For the organizers, it’s not just about competition—it’s about building community.
