School Bus Safety: Tree Trimming and Speeding Awareness in Westheimer Lakes
As the new school year approaches, the Westheimer Lakes community kindly requests all residents to trim any tree branches extending into the roadways to ensure safe and unobstructed passage for school buses from Katy ISD and Lamar Consolidated ISD.
In recent years, bus drivers have reported difficulties in navigating through the neighborhood due to low-hanging tree limbs. These obstructions have impaired visibility, complicated school bus routes, and even posed safety risks to students who have experienced scratches while boarding or exiting the buses.
Residents are encouraged to complete tree trimming as soon as possible to promote clear visibility and safety for all street users. Should anyone consider removing a street tree—located between the sidewalk and curb—please remember to submit an Exterior Modification Request for approval before removal. All tree stumps must be removed and the area properly sodded after the tree is taken out.
Additionally, with children returning to school, residents are reminded to drive responsibly through the community by adhering to posted speed limits and watching for pedestrians. Avoiding speeding supports the safety of children and all neighborhood residents.
For questions about tree trimming guidelines or the modification request process, please contact the Westheimer Lakes POA office at 281-394-5961 or wln@westheimerlakespoa.com.
Thank you for your cooperation in making Westheimer Lakes a safer place for everyone as we welcome the new school year.
