Spring ISD Breaks Ground on $430 Million Spring High School, Marking a New Era for Students and Community

August 26 2025

With construction set to begin following years of collaboration and planning, Spring Independent School District is set to break ground on the new Spring High School—a $430 million flagship campus designed to meet the needs of a growing student population and propel educational excellence for generations to come.

Funded through the district’s 2022 Bond and envisioned by Huckabee Architects and Smith & Company Architects, the new 740,000-square-foot campus will replace the original Spring High School, which was built in 1968. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, at 630 Riley Fuzzel Rd., Spring, TX 77373, and will include performances by student musicians, remarks from district leadership, and a ceremonial photo opportunity with refreshments to follow.

“This groundbreaking is not just about building a new high school, it’s about building futures,” said Spring ISD Board President Justine Durant. “Our community has come together to create a campus that will inspire learning, foster innovation, and prepare our students to lead in every arena—academics, the arts, athletics, and beyond. This new Spring High School stands as a symbol of what is possible when a community believes in its children.”

A Community-Driven Vision for Student Success

With the ability to serve up to 3,500 students, the campus was designed with extensive input from students themselves—ensuring that the facilities reflect both current needs and future aspirations. Features include a dual-entry layout for safety and function, outdoor learning environments, and advanced spaces for Career & Technical Education (CTE), such as a fully equipped Culinary Arts Lab and Bistro, a JROTC training facility, and a new Agricultural Barn.

Spring High School will also become a cornerstone for district athletics and fine arts, with:

  • Five gymnasiums
  • A 2,000-seat football and track stadium
  • Spring ISD’s only regulation competition pool
  • A 1,200-seat performing arts center
  • 2,000 parking spaces to accommodate students, staff, and event-goers

President Durant emphasized the long-term impact of the project: “The groundbreaking represents more than the start of construction—it is a historic moment for our district and a powerful reminder that when a community believes and invests in its children, it is investing in a brighter future for everyone.”

Project Partners, Timeline, and Community Collaboration

The design team—Huckabee Architects and Smith & Company Architects—worked closely with Spring ISD leadership, students, and teachers to create an environment that supports 21st-century learning while honoring the legacy of the original Spring High School.

District officials expect construction to be completed by Fall 2028. The completed campus aims to provide students and families with a state-of-the-art space designed to support learning, growth, and community engagement.
