How the Rankings Are Determined
U.S. News & World Report’s Best High Schools methodology draws from several key data sources, including state assessments in math, reading, and science; high school graduation rates; and participation and performance in college-level coursework.
Schools earn high marks when they:
- Exceed state-level expectations in reading, math, and science scores
- Demonstrate strong college readiness through participation in AP/IB exams
- Maintain high graduation rates
- Show strong performance among underserved populations, including economically disadvantaged students and students of color
Each school is then ranked nationally and by state, with percentiles assigned based on overall performance. The rankings aim to help parents, students, and communities better understand how well their local schools are preparing students for life after graduation.
Continued Recognition Reflects District Growth
Tomball ISD’s consistent recognition at the national level reflects broader district trends. With more than 23,000 students enrolled across 25 campuses in northwest Harris and southwest Montgomery counties, the district has seen steady population growth in recent years as families move to the area in search of strong public schools.
Though no rating system is perfect, these rankings provide a useful lens into how local schools are performing on a national scale—and offer a moment of recognition for students, teachers, and administrators who contribute to that success.
Tomball ISD’s strong showing in the 2024–2025 U.S. News & World Report rankings highlights the district’s continued efforts to provide quality education and college-ready pathways for all students.
