Copperbrook Residents Invited to Honor Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal at Annual September Memorial Breakfast

August 11 2025

This September, Copperbrook residents will once again come together to honor the life and legacy of a man who served and protected their neighborhood with compassion and courage. The Annual Breakfast Honoring Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Charles W. Austin Park, just minutes from where Deputy Dhaliwal patrolled. Admission is free, and all are welcome.

For many in Copperbrook, this gathering carries a deeply personal meaning. On September 27, 2019, Deputy Dhaliwal — a 10-year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office — was shot and killed during a traffic stop just outside the neighborhood. His loss was felt not only by the law enforcement community and the Sikh community but also by the residents he served daily.

Deputy Dhaliwal broke barriers as the first Sikh deputy in the history of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, proudly wearing his turban and beard while in uniform. Beyond his trailblazing role, he was known for his kindness, humility, and dedication to connecting with people from all backgrounds.

Since his passing, his name has been honored in significant ways. The Addicks Howell Road Post Office was renamed for him in December 2020, and a portion of Beltway 8 near Highway 249 is now the HCSO Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal Memorial Tollway, ensuring thousands are reminded of his sacrifice each day.

The annual breakfast is held near his memorial in Charles W. Austin Park, providing a gathering place for neighbors, deputies, community leaders, and visitors to share stories and remember his values. Previous events have included prayers from both Sikh and Christian faith leaders, heartfelt tributes from colleagues and family, and a breakfast that blends traditional fare with Indian-inspired dishes.

This year’s event promises the same atmosphere of unity and reflection. Whether you knew Deputy Dhaliwal personally or simply wish to pay your respects, organizers encourage Copperbrook residents to bring friends, family, and neighbors to share in a morning of remembrance.

This breakfast is more than an event — it’s a way for Copperbrook to honor a man who gave so much to protect and unite its residents. It’s a chance to ensure that his spirit of service and kindness continues to inspire generations to come.
