Katy Teen Kaidryn Cain Combines Dance and Hair Design to Inspire Quinceañera Dreams

April 09 2025

At just 17 years old, Kaidryn Cain, a student at Morton Ranch High School, is already turning heads—and not just with fresh haircuts. The Katy native has made a name for himself in the local Quinceañera scene as both an aspiring hair stylist and a dance choreographer, blending artistic expression, cultural appreciation, and entrepreneurial ambition to support some of the most memorable celebrations in the community.

Cain’s journey into the world of Quinceañera choreography began with a simple invitation. “I first became interested in dancing when I got invited to my first Quinceañera by a friend,” he recalled. That moment sparked a growing passion, and by age 15, Cain was choreographing full routines, helping classmates bring their big day to life.

“Dancing comes naturally to me,” Cain said. “It started by me adding what I thought looked better to other choreography, and it just evolved from there.”

A Celebration of Culture and Community

Although Kaidryn isn’t Latino himself—his mother is half Korean and half Caucasian with German heritage, and his father is Caucasian with Irish and Dutch roots—he has found a deep connection to the culture through its energy and traditions.

“I love the dancing, the food, the music. The energy, the culture, and the people,” he said. “Some say the atmosphere is overstimulating, but I find it energizing.”

Now working with Royalty Entertainment, a well-known Katy-based dance crew, Cain continues to refine his skills under the mentorship of George, a seasoned choreographer. Together, they blend traditional styles like waltz and huapango with hip-hop and acrobatics, giving each performance a unique flair.

“My favorite memory so far was performing a waltz to a song I love,” Cain shared. “It was also one of my first times performing with my new crew.”

Cain says every Quinceañera project starts with a conversation—either with the birthday girl, her friends, or the parents—about the number of dances and who will be involved. From there, rehearsals can range from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the complexity of the routines and the dancers’ skill levels.

Styling Hair, One Performance at a Time

Beyond the dance floor, Cain is also pursuing a career in hair styling, practicing on friends and crew members with the hope of earning his cosmetology license. Many of the dancers he works with come to him for fresh haircuts and styling before performances.

“Yes, our crew is expected to have a fresh haircut before each performance, so many of my crew and the participants will come visit me to help style them,” he said.

Balancing both dance and hair takes discipline, but Cain has found a rhythm. “Dance practice is at night on weekdays, and performances are on weekends,” he explained. “For hair styling, my friends usually come over after school or early in the mornings on weekends.”

His long-term goal is to own a business that combines both passions—a hair salon on one side, and a private dance studio next door. “I’d also love to have my own product line one day,” he added.

A Vision for the Future

Cain credits his mentors—including George and Edgar from Royalty Entertainment and —as well as his family, friends, and the community for supporting his journey. “My family has been very supportive. A few of my friends dance with me and many of them think it's impressive that I can learn and do all their cultural dances being from a different background.”

“I feel honored that my friends trusted me—basically an outsider to their culture—and exposed me to this amazing world,” he said. “I feel blessed to be part of their special day.”

Recently, Cain and his crew completed the Spring Expo at Trader’s Village, a showcase for potential clients. Now, they’re heading into a busy season with six back-to-back events and nearly 30 unique dances currently in rehearsal.

For other young people looking to turn their passions into opportunities, Cain offers this advice: “Follow your dreams. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. You have to try and put yourself out there.”
