Huda Fahmy and Junepurr to Headline Inaugural 'Fort Bend Fandom' Celebration at George Memorial Library
A new kind of celebration is coming to Fort Bend County this fall, one where capes, chalk art, cosplay, and comic books collide. On Saturday, September 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., George Memorial Library will host its very first “Fort Bend Fandom” — a free, family-friendly event dedicated to fans of anime, manga, role-playing games, webtoons, and more.
The daylong event at 1001 Golfview Drive in Richmond promises a high-energy mix of creativity, connection, and pop culture, with a full schedule of panels, performances, and activities for all ages. But the highlight for many will be the featured guest speakers: nationally recognized illustrators and graphic novelists Huda Fahmy and Junepurr, both of whom will share their journeys and creative processes in a special morning keynote and afternoon panel discussion.
Creators Who Inspire
At 10:30 a.m., fans will get a chance to hear from Huda Fahmy and Junepurr as they open the event with a candid talk in the George Memorial Library’s main meeting room. Attendees can expect insights into the graphic novel industry, the creative process behind character development, and what it takes to break through in a competitive publishing space.
Huda Fahmy, now based in the Houston area, is best known for her acclaimed webcomic series “Yes, I’m Hot in This”and the popular Huda F graphic novels, which explore life as a Muslim American teen with equal parts humor and heart. Her 2023 title, Huda F Cares?, was even named a finalist for the National Book Award in Young Adult Literature.

A former English teacher who taught middle and high school for eight years, Fahmy transitioned to cartooning full-time after discovering the powerful storytelling potential of graphic novels — especially for young readers and those who may be reluctant to pick up a traditional book. Her comics, known for being short and accessible, blend witty dialogue with a focus on social change and identity.
Junepurr, creator of the romantic fantasy webcomic SubZero, is a self-taught artist with a degree in accounting from the University of Houston. Since launching her webcomics career in 2017, Junepurr has built a loyal following drawn to her lush visuals, compelling story arcs, and strong female leads. Her work represents a fusion of anime-inspired artwork and modern storytelling that resonates across age groups and fan communities.
Both creators will return at 1:30 p.m. for an author panel and live Q&A in Room 2A, giving fans the chance to engage more deeply and ask questions about storytelling, fandom culture, and career advice.
